Who are the Charleston 9?

On June 18th 2007, 9 Firefighters were lost in a Charleston, SC Sofa Warehouse fire. It was the largest loss of Fire Department personnel in a single incident since the 9/11 Terrorist attacks. In an effort to help the families of these fallen men, Laddie Williams, an Augusta Firefighter, and Scott Rousseau, a friend and Bike Mechanic, will embark on a cross-country bike ride. Departing from Palm Springs, CA on September 11th, 2007, Laddie and Scott will ride an average of 100 to 120 miles each day and stay at Fire Stations all across the Country. This ride will showcase the family aspect of the Fire profession by providing housing and meals along the 2600 mile route. Local Departments will help arrange for media coverage to draw attention to the ride and increase fundraising in their communities.
